Studying in a Europe without borders? Completing part of a training programme in another country? Exporting German initial and continuing vocational training? All this is made possible through international cooperation in education. The BMBF is an important player in international education cooperation at European level and worldwide.

    UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development"

    The United Nations have declared the years 2005 to 2014 the world decade on "Education for Sustainable Development". The aim of the Decade is to anchor the ideal of sustainable development in all areas of education. The Decade wants to provide education opportunities to all people, enabling them to acquire knowledge and values and learn about behaviour and lifestyles which are needed to ensure a liveable future and develop a future-oriented society.

    Lifelong Learning Programme: European education programme for all

    The EU Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) was launched on 1 January 2007. With a budget of almost 7 billion euros, the biggest European education programme to date is funding European exchanges of learners and teachers in all age groups and European cooperation of education institutions over the period 2007 to 2013.

    Bilateral exchange programmes in vocational training

    The internationalization of industry and the working world is increasingly calling for qualified personnel with foreign language skills, intercultural competence and knowledge of other economic regions and different business practices. It is never too early to start acquiring these competences, which is why the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has supported bilateral exchange programmes for vocational trainees with the Netherlands, Norway and Great Britain since the mid-1990s. The Franco-German exchange programme in vocational training has been organized for 30 years.

    iMOVE - Training - Made in Germany

    "Training Made in Germany" refers to the internationally renowned quality of German initial and continuing vocational training. There is a growing international demand for vocational training from Germany on the global education market. Since 2001, the BMBF has therefore supported the marketing for "Training - Made in Germany" with the iMove initiative (International Marketing of Vocational Education). German education providers can resort to a number of services when preparing and realising their commitment abroad. With "Training - Made in Germany", iMove advertises German competence in initial and continuing vocational training abroad.
