    UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development"

    The United Nations have declared the years 2005 to 2014 the world decade on "Education for Sustainable Development". The aim of the Decade is to anchor the ideal of sustainable development in all areas of education. The Decade wants to provide education opportunities to all people, enabling them to acquire knowledge and values and learn about behaviour and lifestyles which are needed to ensure a liveable future and develop a future-oriented society.

    Lifelong Learning Programme: the new European Education Programme

    The European programme in the field of lifelong learning brings the SOCRATES and LEONARDO DA VINCI programmes together under a single roof. Between 2007 and 2013 a budget of almost 7 billion euro will be available for exchanges of teachers and learners of all ages as well as for cooperation between education institutions.

    Working Programme of EU Ministers of Education

    At the meeting of the European Council in Lisbon in 2000, the Heads of Government agreed to make the European Union the world's most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy by 2010. The Ministers of Education drafted a work programme as a contribution to the Lisbon target. The European Union is taking into account the increased significance of education and its contribution to integration and innovation. A modern future-oriented education policy can only be shaped bearing in mind European and international developments.

    International Marketing for Initial and Continuing Vocational Training

    "Training Made in Germany" stands for the internationally recognized quality of the German initial and continuing vocational training system. Continuing vocational training is increasingly becoming an international service product. The BMBF therefore supports marketing for "Training Made in Germany" with the establishment of the iMOVE office. The objective of iMOVE is to contribute to preparing German programmes of continuing vocational training for the international competition by means of special measures, and to position them increasingly on the international market of continuing training.
